Pauline Perez, Parent and Site Director of Santa Rosa Champions Program, invited the Love Your Brain Now Team to Atascadero, CA! She wanted to get involved and have the bus come to her children’s school to educate the school about epilepsy and help spread awareness. Having a daughter with epilepsy and already having lost her mother to the disease, Pauline is devoted to this cause.
The Tour Team was greeted with smiles and excitement. Pauline and her three children (Evelyn Ortiz, Valarie and Isaiah Sanchez.) wasted no time helping us set up the brain. Before I knew it we had our first class walking through and learning. Shortly after I look over my shoulder and Pauline and her family were being interviewed by the local news! Then, 20 minutes later I saw two young girls with their mother approach the bus/brain. They had just seen the live news piece and decided to drive to the school to see the brain for themselves!
The day winded down with homemade cupcakes (with purple frosting for Epilepsy Awareness) UUUMMMMMMMMMMM…. Then we were off to Visalia, CA.
Then it was off to Visalia, CA. Jennifer Webb and Family reached out to the Love Your Brain Now Bus Tour early to come out and help educate the school about the brain, seizures and seizure first aid. We were yet again greeted with amazing hospitality and some great helpers! (You’ll see more of the Webb family from our Sacramento trip!)
Giving these presentations to schools can be tiring but always worth it. Reflecting on the day(s) and weeks of the tour has been an eye opening experience and something I can’t wait to take in as a whole once complete. Until then we’re on to the next town, the next school and the next person who’s ready to Love Their Brain!!
Love It,
Nate
